In this article, we explain how to disable the automatic reminder process in bexio, either globally for all your invoices or individually for a specific invoice.

Disable all automatic reminders
If you wish to completely disable automatic reminder emails for all your clients:
- Go to Settings > All Settings > Feature & Modules > Reminder Levels.
- Click on the reminder level you wish to edit (e.g., Payment Reminder, 1st Reminder, 2nd Reminder).
- In the Send automatic payment reminders by email section, uncheck the box.
- Click Save.
- Repeat this step for each reminder level you wish to disable.
If you disable automatic reminders on the same day a reminder is scheduled, it will still be sent. To prevent this, you must go directly to the invoice concerned and manually disable the reminder there.
Reminders will no longer be sent automatically. You can still continue to create and send reminders manually.
How to send manual reminders?
When automation is disabled, you can generate your reminders in two ways:
- Create a manual reminder from an invoice
- How to create bulk reminders via the reminder process
Disable automatic reminder for a specific invoice
If you wish to disable or postpone the automatic reminder for a single invoice only (for example, following a specific agreement with your client):
- Open the invoice concerned.
- Go to the "Reminders" tab.
- Click the pencil icon next to the relevant reminder level.
- Uncheck the automation option or adjust the scheduled sending date.
- Save the changes.
How Sequential Reminders Work (Reminders 2 and 3)
Due to chronological due date management:
- Only the 1st reminder can be modified initially.
- The 2nd reminder becomes editable only after the 1st reminder has actually been sent.
- You cannot adjust a reminder until the previous one has been triggered.
Important points to note
Before and after disabling automatic reminders, please keep the following points in mind:
- By disabling automatic sending, tracking due dates becomes your responsibility again. Remember to regularly check your unpaid invoices to trigger reminders manually (from the invoice or via the bulk reminder process).
- If you switch from automatic to manual mode, always check the "Reminders" tab on the invoice to ensure no scheduled sending duplicates your manual reminder.
- Disabling automation does not delete your custom text. Your email templates configured under Settings > Document Templates remain saved and will be reused if you reactivate the feature later.
