Kontera allows you to post six posting types, which synchronize differently depending on the bexio account and Kontera settings. Accounts Payable Invoices are synchronized as purchase bills in a normal bexio account, and as manual entries in a bexio accounting package. The posting strategy can be adjusted per organization or per bank account/credit card. The "post without contact" option always results in a manual entry. For credit card statements, the rounding precision in bexio must be set to CHF 0.01.

Default setting
You can post different types of documents in Kontera:
- Accounts Payable Invoices
- Accounts Payable Credit Notes
- Accounts Receivable Invoices
- Accounts Receivable Credit Notes
- Direct Entry: Credit
- Direct Entry: Debit
If you select "Direct Entry", Kontera will perform a direct manual entry, meaning without the intermediate step via a collective account (accounts payable collective account 2000 / accounts receivable collective account 1100), even if you have entered "Accrual basis" as the VAT accounting method.
These 6 posting types are synchronized differently to bexio in some cases, based on your settings in Kontera and your bexio account:
| Use case | Normal bexio account | bexio FiBu-Paket |
| Accounts Payable Invoices | Purchase bill (1) (2) | Manual entry |
| Accounts Payable Credit Notes | Manual entry | Manual entry |
| Accounts Receivable Invoices | Manual entry | Manual entry |
| Accounts Receivable Credit Notes | Manual entry | Manual entry |
| Direct Entry: Credit | Manual entry | Manual entry |
| Direct Entry: Debit | Manual entry | Manual entry |
(1) By default, Kontera always creates purchase bills for Accounts Payable Invoices. However, it is possible that Kontera also generates manual entries with this option.
The following settings (see "Setting per organization" / "Setting per bank account / credit card" / "post without contact") affect this behavior. Check with your fiduciary if a change is desired.
Setting per organization
If you want to change your posting strategy in Kontera generally for a specific organization, you can do this under "Settings → Accounting system". This option is only available if it is a normal bexio account.
Setting per bank account / credit card
If you want to change your posting strategy in Kontera for a specific credit card or bank account, you can adjust this in the specific account under "Settings → Credit cards / Bank accounts".
Post document "without contact"
This option only exists when you reconcile a document with a transaction. You then have the option to post "without contact". In this case, a manual entry is generated anyway.
(2) In combination with foreign currencies, there are constellations with reconciled documents that Kontera does not transfer as purchase bills. Such documents must be processed as manual entries. See "Purchase bill not possible: Manual entries for reconciled documents". You can find more on this topic here: "Purchase bills in bexio"
Rounding precision
Particularly to be able to post credit card statements, the precision for currencies in bexio often needs to be adjusted.
You can find this setting in bexio under "Settings → All settings", and then on "Features and modules". Click on "Currencies and exchange rates" there.
To change the rounding factor of your main currency (CHF), click on "change" in the title. To cover all cases with Kontera, the rounding factor should be set to CHF 0.01, primarily if credit card transactions are posted using Kontera. These are often billed to the exact cent.
For all other currencies, the precision can be adjusted using the 3 dots on the right.
