Whenever possible, use the customs/import tax rates predefined by bexio. If you nevertheless create your own VAT rate, make sure that you select either "Customs tax VAT investments, other operating expenses" or "Customs tax VAT materials, goods, services, energy" for the type. Only with these tax types 100% will be calculated in the VAT. For other types (sales as well as input tax type) only 50% and not 100% will be calculated in case of 100% VAT rate.
Caution: Avoid entering a customs/import tax rate with 0%, this can lead to errors. For input tax free imports there is the default VAT rate VIM in bexio. Basically there is no reason to add own new VAT codes with 0% in bexio.
On the sales side, the codes "UEX" (export/exempt), "ULA" (services abroad) and "UNO" (turnover excluded) exist for this. On the purchasing side, the VAT codes "VIM" (import) and "VSF" (input tax exempt) exist.
You can book the import tax levied by customs, which is charged to you, for example by a forwarding agent or postal service /DHL, conveniently and easily with the correct VAT code via the supplier invoices module.
To do this, select the relevant goods expense or operating expense account and the corresponding VAT code “Customs tax advance Material/DL" or "Customs tax advance Inv/üBA" and the complete VAT is posted to the correct Customs tax advance account.
To do this, go to "Purchase" - "bills" - "+new bill" and in the line item; select the correct posting account .

Here you can now choose the appropriate VAT rate for your import tax. Either "Customs tax advance material/DL" or “Customs tax advance Inv/üBA". Then you can post the supplier invoice.
In this way your import tax is booked automatically:
You can also enter the import tax manually in the form to be found under "Accounting" - "manual posting".
