Initial situation
The wrong accounting method (received/agreed) is stored in your client's account. If there are already bookings this year, you cannot change this. The easiest way is to calculate the VAT payment yourself for this year.
Procedure
Regardless of the accounting method selected, you need the following reports:
| What | Date Range | Where |
| Income Statement & Balance Sheet | Q1 - Q4 20xx / H1 & H2 20xx | Accounting -> Reports -> … |
Account Statement
- 1100
- 2000
- 1170, 1171 & 1172
- 2200 & 2202
| Q1 - Q4 20xx / H1 & H2 20xx |
| Outstanding Debtor/Creditor items | Cut-off date at the end of each quarter/semester |
| VAT statement | Q1 - Q4 20xx / H1 & H2 20xx | Accounting -> Value Added Tax |
Tip: Adjust the billing method for next year now. You can find this under "Settings" → "All Settings" → "Accounting" → "VAT Basic Settings". Click on the tax period and select – if available – the next year.
If it does not exist, create it via "Add next period". Please note that if you change your billing method for next year at the Federal Tax Administration (FTA), you must also adjust this setting in bexio for next year.
I have booked "agreed" but it should be "received" (effective taxation)

Sales tax
You use the amounts from the VAT statement based on "agreed" as a basis. Manually calculate the VAT amount owed based on "received" for each VAT rate (2.5% / 3.8% / 7.7%). The figures for this can be found by combining the respective open item list with the account statement of account 1100.
| What | VAT rate | Net amount | VAT amount |
| Turnover according to agreed statement | 7.7% | 10'000.- | 770.- |
| minus outstanding receivables as of 31.3.2020 | 7.7% | -2'000.- | -154.- |
| plus outstanding receivables as of 31.12.2019 | 7.7% | +3'000.- | +231.- |
| Total turnover from received | | =11'000.- | =847.- |
Input tax
You use the open item list of Purchase Bills and the account statement for accounts 1170 and 1171. There you will see the associated input tax bookings. This allows you to add the tax bookings and calculate the input tax deduction. Be sure to differentiate between deductions for "Input tax on investments" (code 405) and "Input tax on materials" (code 400).
| What | VAT rate | Net amount | VAT amount |
| Input tax according to agreed statement | Code 400 | | 250.- |
| minus input tax from outstanding Purchase Bills as of 31.3.2020 | Code 400 | | -25.- |

| plus input tax from outstanding Purchase Bills as of 31.12.2019 | Code 405 | | +250.- |
| Total input tax Code 405 | | | =500.- |
Acquisition tax
You declare the acquisition tax in the quarter of payment. If you have booked a creditor with acquisition tax in Q1 but paid it in Q2, the corresponding corrections must be made.
Please note that you only consider Purchase Bills for which you claim an input tax deduction.
